Qira privacy policy

Last updated: 4 October 2026 (Qira 0.8)

In short

Qira is a reading app made by Youssef Toufik. It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no server of its own, so nothing you do in Qira is sent to the developer.

What stays on your device

Saved articles, reading positions, highlights, notes and reader settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Deleting an article deletes its highlights. Uninstalling Qira deletes everything. Android device backups may include your library; they never include your Readwise token.

Article sites

When you share or paste a link, or when Reader import or a Readwise restore brings an article back, Qira downloads that page directly from the site that published it, the same way a browser would. Images inside articles load from their original sites. Those sites see an ordinary web request from your device.

X posts

When you open or import an X (Twitter) post, Qira fetches it through the FxTwitter service at api.fxtwitter.com, and api.vxtwitter.com as a fallback, because x.com itself does not work without a browser. These services see which post is requested and that the request comes from Qira, as with any web request; nothing about you or your library is sent. Images in the post load from X's image server, like images on any other site.

Readwise (optional)

Readwise is a separate service. Qira talks to it only after you paste your own Readwise access token in Settings. Then:

  • Your highlights and notes, with the title, author and link of the article they come from, are sent to readwise.io so they appear in your Readwise account.
  • If you turn on the Readwise Reader import, Qira reads the list of documents in your Readwise Reader library and downloads the ones you chose.
  • Qira reads your Readwise highlight export to find the highlights made with Qira (all others are discarded on the device) and downloads those articles again from the sites that published them. This happens after you add a token and when you tap Bring back from Readwise.

Your token is encrypted with a key kept in the Android Keystore, is never written to device backups, and is sent only to readwise.io over HTTPS. Data in your Readwise account is covered by the Readwise privacy policy and can be managed or deleted from your Readwise account. Remove the token in Qira's Settings to stop all Readwise traffic.

Dictionary

When you choose Look up on a word, Qira sends that word (and nothing else) to the Wikimedia Foundation's Wiktionary service over HTTPS to show its definition. Wikimedia's privacy policy covers that request. Definitions you have looked up are cached on your device so they also work offline. Nothing is sent until you tap Look up.

Qira Pro purchases

Qira Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google processes the payment under the Google Play terms and privacy policy; the developer never sees your card or payment details. Qira only asks Google Play whether Pro is unlocked and keeps that answer on your device.

Delete your data

The developer never receives or keeps a copy of your data, so there is nothing to request from us. You delete it yourself:

  • In Qira, delete an article to remove it together with its highlights and notes. To remove everything Qira stored on your device (articles, highlights, notes, settings and your Readwise token), uninstall the app.
  • To stop sending anything to Readwise, open Settings in Qira and tap Remove token.
  • Highlights and notes that were already synced live in your Readwise account. Delete them in Readwise, or delete your Readwise account, at readwise.io. Readwise's own retention rules apply there.
  • If Android backup is turned on, your device backup may include your Qira library (never your Readwise token). Manage or delete backups in your Google account's backup settings.
